Surge The Tenrec Sonic Rumble Skin

Spread the love

On December 17th, 2025, Surge the Tenrec officially made her next move within the Sonic franchise, arriving for the first time ever in the hit game Sonic Rumble!

The fan-favorite anti-hero, who first gained popularity through the IDW comics, now steps into Sega’s chaotic party battler just as the game kicks off its second season.

There were already some insider leaks that had previously hinted at her making an appearance, this was later solidified with the addition of the characters Tangle and Whisper in season 1.

But it’s now official…and boy does she look amazing.

Starting with Season 2, players will be able to unlock the Surge skin for initially around 230 RSR (for a very limited time, and to increase to 329RSR), a price point that immediately stands out.

Compared to many other premium skins in the game, Surge’s cost is surprisingly affordable.

Like really…it’s very cheap.

A price that makes her one of the most accessible, addition to the roster so far.

This is more relevant when you consider it’s her first appearance. It’s not a variant skin, like for the more popular characters like Tails or Shadow, so it could easily have been a way more expensive.

Currently at 230 RSR, a steal. Sonic Rumble skins are notorious for being pretty expensive, and the Surge one is fairly cheap.

Rarity And Abilities

When it comes to her skin rarity, Surge’s skin is Epic, meaning she gives you a player percentage boost ranging from +45% up to +75%, and 10 levels of upgrade possible.

Getting her in the game, also gives you three stamps toward the Season Stamp Ability which, for season 2 specifically, is the Cyclone Dash. Probably one of the top 5 abilities of the whole game, that any player should have in their arsenal.

Speaking of abilities…

Surge brings to the game 2 brand new Legendary skills. These are only for and only usable by her, and fit her character and playstyle.

The first is called Electric Blast. This ability comes with her the moment you get her, and is a broad attack that hits enemies that are close by, giving you 40 rings per hit.

Electric Blast is great for close encounters, 2d stages and survival stages where you have to play in tight spaces, allowing you to hit more rivals.

The second ability, is called Twin Surge. This one can only be purchased in the Sonic Rumble store, for 1,500 Skill Points. This is an ability which gives you a speed boost but also hits your opponents, sealing 30 rings on each hit.

This ability is actually pretty strong, since it allows you to hit twice (hence the name) even on level 1 but is also simply a boost if you’re ahead.

You can change directions on each hit and it’s an unblockable effect too. It is a bit harder to control than most abilities though.

Notably, both abilities are Legendary rarity, meaning they are relatively expensive to upgrade to maximum levels, since they increase 600 skill points per level.

So the upgrades look like the following:

  • Level 1: 600
  • Level 2: 1800
  • Level 3: 2400
  • Level 4: 3000
  • Level 5: 3600

Where, depending on the skill, each upgrade will either increase range of attack, decrease cooldown period and so on.

Closing Thoughts

For fans of Surge, this is an easy recommendation and pretty much an instant pickup if you’re planning on playing Sonic Rumble at all.

She’s one of the coolest and most aggressive characters to come out of modern Sonic lore, and Sonic Rumble does a great job translating that energy into gameplay.

Between her fairly strong abilities and relevant player percentage boosts, getting the chance to get a character as beloved as her, for such a cheap amount of RSR…it’s really a no brainer.
